The current Hindt Funeral Home, located at 316 North Broadway, originated in Spring Valley in 1904 by Peter R. Jorris. The Jorris family resided in Wykoff, where Peter was in the lumber business. In 1904, he moved to Spring Valley, where he bought a furniture store and funeral parlor. Peter’s son, Archie, became interested in the business and received his training at the University of Minnesota. He later joined his father in the business as a partner and was active for over 50 years. In 1932, Archie’s son, Loren, joined the business. Loren operated the funeral home until the mid-1960’s, when he was seriously injured in a plane crash. After hearing of the plane crash, Wallace and Ann Osland offered to help out and were offered a job in 1965. In 1968, Loren Jorris sold the family business to Wallace and Ann Osland.

The Osland Funeral Home was sold in January of 1996 to Jim Hindt, who at the time was employed by the Hutchins Funeral Homes in LeRoy and Grand Meadow. He continued to work for the Hutchins Funeral Homes until 1998. At that time, he purchased the LeRoy and Grand Meadow Funeral Homes and operates the three locations today with his niece, Charity Hindt Rasmussen.
