Abbie Mary Pecinovsky was born on February 24, 1927, daughter of Carl and Clara (Martinek) Pecinovsky in Howard County, Iowa.  Abbie was a 1945 graduate of Rudolphinum High School in Protivin.  On September 30, 1952, Abbie married Andrew Novak at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin.  To this union three children were born Adrian, Rita, and Loren.

Abbie and Andrew took over the Novak family farm, which is now a century farm.  She tended to the chickens, grew a bountiful garden, and helped Andrew with various jobs.  Abbie was an excellent cook and baker.  She always had cookies waiting in the freezer for when her family visited.  After moving to town, Abbie and Andrew, took several bus trips.  One of her favorite tours was to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  Abbie liked to listen to Old Time (polka) music and watching cooking shows on Iowa Public Television, often at the same time.  Abbie enjoyed playing card games, embroidery, knitting, and canning.  She loved time spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren, and talking on the phone with her sister Pauline.   Abbie’s faith was very important to her.  She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity, participating in many church groups, and sang strong alto in the Czech Choir.  She has been a member of the Protivin American Legion Auxiliary since 1956.

She is survived by her children Adrian (Beth) Novak of Onalaska, WI, and Rita (Richard) Baird of Manly, IA, grandchildren Heather (Shad) Mallady of Seward, NE, Anthony (Kim) Novak of La Crosse, WI, and Angela Baird of Miami, FL, great grandchildren Addison and Porter Mallady, and Payton and Tanner Novak, her sister Pauline Hubka of Waucoma, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband Andrew, son Loren, and two brothers Art and Don Pecinovsky.

Memorials may be given to Into the Ark.  Into the Ark is a non-profit ministry founded by Abbie’s granddaughter, Angela Baird.  Its purpose is to bring hope to the broken.  Through outreach ministries, disaster relief, foreign missions, mentorship, public speaking, and writing, ITA addresses the experience of suffering with the ministry of Christ's gospel, allowing Him to turn our trials into His glory.
