Cecelia M. Kapler, 96, of Cresco, IA passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at Hawkeye Care Center Cresco, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2015, at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, IA. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, IA. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 404 N Elm Street Cresco, IA 52136, with a scripture wake service held at 5:30p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Cecelia Marie Shatek was born on November 15, 1918, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Komarek) Shatek by Lourdes, Iowa. She attended rural country school until the 8th grade. On September 18, 1945, Cecelia married Leonard Kapler at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, IA. Cecelia was a member of Notre Dame Parish and the Notre Dame Rosary Society. She was a wonderful cook and baker who collected recipes. She took delight in being outside in her vegetable garden and canning the harvest. Cecelia enjoyed playing cards, bird watching, and listening to polka music.
She is survived by her children Don (Carol) Kapler of Cresco, IA, Ray (Linda) Kapler of New Hampton, IA, Gene (Joyce) Kapler of Cresco, IA, and Patty (Tom) O’Brien of Waterloo, IA, 9 grandchildren Kathy Kapler of Rochester, MN, Steve Kapler of Cresco, Mark (Jessica) Kapler of Cresco, Michelle (Matt) Zubcic of Coralville, IA, Chris (Nichole) Kapler of Waukee, IA, Kevin (Holly) Kapler of Ankeny, IA, Amy (Sabra) Kapler Cedar Rapids, IA, Heather (Stephanie) Kapler Kanik Mcleansboro, IL, Kristina (special friend Tela) Kapler of Des Moines, IA, 11 great grandchildren, brothers, Joseph Shatek of Fort Atkinson, IA, Leonard Shatek of Lourdes, IA, and John (Margaret) Shatek of Lourdes, IA, sister-in-law Bonnie Shatek of Lourdes, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband Leonard on January 4, 1999, her brothers Alois, Edward (Lucille), Clarence (Mildred), and Francis (spouse of Bonnie Shatek), and sisters-in-law Rita Shatek (spouse of Joe Shatek) and Rose Marie Shatek (spouse of Leonard Shatek).
