Celesta V Hammes

Celesta V. Hammes, age 95, of Spring Valley passed away peacefully Friday April 29, 2016 at the Spring Valley Senior Living where she had resided for a short time.

Celesta Workman was born July 31, 1920 in Carrolton Twp. Fillmore County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Frank and Clara (Flaby) Workman. On December 21, 1940 she was united in marriage to  LaVerne Hammes in Lanesboro, MN. LaVerne passed away on August 20. 1982. Celesta was employed for many years at the local clothing store in Spring Valley. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, doing puzzles and playing cards. She was a member of St Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley.

Celesta is survived by 2 daughters; Patricia (Robert) Pierce of Stewartville, MN, Helen (Paul) Tangen of Grand Meadow, MN and a son-in-law Al Austin of Harmony, MN, 9 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Marcia, a son James, 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Friday May 6, 2016 at St Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Preston, MN. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday.

Memorial are preferred to Heartland Hospice or St Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley.
