Darrell G. Freerksen

Funeral services for Darrell G. Freerksen will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday September 29, 2015 at Valley Christen Center in Spring Valley with Pastor James Leonard officiating. Burial will take place in the Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until time of Service at the church on Tuesday. Hindt Funeral Home of Spring Valley, MN is in charge of the arrangements.

Darrell G. Freerksen, age 94, of Spring Valley died Friday September 25, 2015 at Ostrander Health and Rehab.

He was born on June 17, 1921 in Rural Eldora, IA to Lewis and Sadie (Strickland) Freerksen. Darrell attended school through the 8th grade and later joined the United States Army. He served from 1943 until 1946. Darrell was united in marriage to Harriette Frey and together they lived in the Spring Valley area for many years. Darrell farmed for a number of years and later owned a service station and did mechanical work in Spring Valley, MN. In later years Darrell repaired vacuum cleaners in Spring Valley. Darrell also lived in California working as a carpenter and a vacuum repairman. Before he lost his eyesight, Darrell was an avid reader.

He is survived by his daughter Pam Leibel of Onalaska, WI and a son Dennis (Sue) Payne of Waterloo, IA, 12 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Harriette in July of 1999, 1 son David, 1 step-daughter Pat, 4 sisters and 7 brother.
