Donald E. Tlusty, age 77, of Lawler, IA passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, IA.

A funeral services will be held 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA with Deacon Jim Zijacek officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 9:30-11:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the church. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 123 North Main Street, Protivin, IA 52136 is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Edward Tlusty, the son of Edward and Helen (Koudelka) Tlusty, was born July 8, 1938 in Protivin, IA. He attended country school through the 8th grade and then continued his education at Crestwood High School in Cresco, IA. After high school, Don worked at Oliver’s in Charles City, IA. He then returned home and helped on the family century farm and worked road construction. On May 19, 1959, Don was united in marriage to Eileen Lentz at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA. Don then worked for numerous factories and returned back to road construction. Together, Don and Eileen owned the Tower Supper Club for 18 years. They also enjoyed traveling to all but 4 out of the 50 United States. Don was an inventor, fabricator, and a wide engineer of everything. He loved to tinker on just about everything, create different motorized vehicles, and instead of buying anything he would build things out of junk. Music was huge part of Don’s life. He was a member of the “Eddie Old Timers” band playing guitar and also played for numerous bands throughout his life. Don also enjoyed salmon fishing on Lake Michigan and in Minnesota with his friends, playing Euchre and 500, and hunting. In his later years, Don enjoyed going to Jericho and Cresco, IA to have coffee with his buddies.

Don is survived by his wife, Eileen of Lawler, IA; 4 sons, Randy Tlusty of Elma, IA, Mark (Erica) Tlusty of Rockford, IA, Rick (Sharon) Tlusty of Waseca, MN, and Mick (Sherri) Tlusty of Colorado Springs, CO; 7 grandchildren, Jason (Julie) Tlusty, Kayla (Peter) Moehnke, Colten (Jenna Cliff) Tlusty, Connor Tlusty, Tiffiny (Kevin McNamara) Tlusty, Cristy (Clayton Carper) Tlusty, and Katie Tlusty;  and 5 great grandchildren, Bennet Ruhland, Brandelyn Tlusty, Briauna Tlusty, Brayden Tlusty, and Mason Carper.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Helen and sister, Mildred (Dean) Anfinson.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the family.
