Funeral services for Dorothy Jones will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in LeRoy, MN with Pastor John Kerr officiating. Burial will take place in the Chester Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dorothy M. Jones, age 97, of Adams, MN passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams, MN.
Dorothy Mae Evans was born July 25, 1918 near McIntire, IA, the daughter of George and Eliza (Playle) Evans. She grew up on a farm and graduated from McIntire High School in 1936. She worked as a housekeeper until she married Harold Jones on May 23, 1943 at the home of her parents.
They lived on two different farms before buying a farm one mile south of the Iowa-Minnesota border near LeRoy, MN. They lived there, raising their son, Harlan, until they retired and moved into LeRoy, MN and built a new home. Dorothy lived in LeRoy until after Harold was moved to the Adams Health Care Center in 2005, when she moved into an apartment attached to the Care Center to be able to see Harold every day. Later she moved into the assisted living quarters at the Care Center and then moved to the nursing home part of the Care Center after falling and breaking her hip.
Dorothy worked for Mendelson-Halling Egg Company in LeRoy for many years. She also helped grow a big garden and did a lot of canning. Some of her favorite meals to make were crème chicken on biscuits and goulash with pea salad. Her chocolate brownies with frosting and bread pudding were a mainstay in the house.
Dorothy and Harold enjoyed going dancing and playing cards. They looked forward to their three grandchildren, Lee, Jennifer, and Cynthia coming to visit for a week each summer.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Harlan (Sharon) Jones of Fergus Fall, MN; grandchildren, Lee (Rita) Jones of Madison, WI, Jennifer Dablow of Fargo, ND, and Cynthia (Ryan) Moen of Fergus Fall, MN; great grandchildren, Alexander, Ryanna, Aydan, Eliza, Czarina, and Sari; brothers-in-law, Roger Jones of Manchester, IA and Donald Jones of Cresco, IA; very special friend, Alta Mae Kasel; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, parents, 2 brothers, Kenneth and Clifford, 3 sisters, Mildred, Golda, and Helen, brothers-in-law, Clarence J., Walter, Vernon, and Clarence M. Lormier, and sisters-in-law, Helen, Carol, Kay, Donna, Lucille, and Betty.
