Evelyn Bohr

Evelyn Bohr, age 82, of Cresco, IA, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, IA. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Cresco, IA.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, with a scripture service at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of service Saturday at the church.

Evelyn Gossman was born July 4, 1933, daughter of William and Pearl (McCauley) Gossman in Decorah, Iowa.  On Tuesday, September 28, 1954, she was united in marriage to Linus Bohr at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton, IA.  Evelyn as the matriarch of her family looked forward to family gatherings, including her July 4th birthday celebration.  She had a great memory for names, dates, and details.  Evelyn was able to have an intelligent conversation with anyone, because she kept up to date on current events.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing bingo, cards, Words with Friends, Sudoku, and keeping up with her family on Facebook.  Evelyn was a very lucky person.  Her luck showed during trips to the casino and playing bingo.  For a non-driver, Evelyn was the best co-pilot always landing a front passenger seat position. In addition to raising her family, Evelyn was the bookkeeper for the family business, L & S Masonry, for 20 years. Evelyn’s faith made her a very courageous and strong person. 

Surviving Evelyn are her children Stephen (Judy) Bohr of Cresco, IA, Marjorie (James) Kidd of Rochester, MN, Carol (Scott) Fiegel of Apple Valley, MN, Norma (David) Albertson of Calmar, IA, Dan (Shelly) Bohr of Cresco, IA, Leon (Lonnie) Bohr of Decorah, IA, and Colleen (Matt) Shannon of Webster City, IA, 20 grandchildren Ann (Dave) Retterath, Lisa (Ryan) Johnson, Brian (Angie) Bohr, Michelle (Bob) Kuhn, Whitney Bohr, Jennifer (Osvaldo) Kidd, Dr. Emily (Travis) Kidd, Erin Fiegel, David (Melinda) Engelhardt, Katie (Jarad) Holzer, Dr. Vanessa Bohr, Kathleen Bohr, Candice Bohr, Ethan Novotny, Emily Novotny, Mitch Novotny, Megan (Brandon) Pitz, Lindsey Bohr, Abby Shannon, and Lucas Shannon, 16 great grandchildren Collin, Tyler, Michael, Hailey, Carter, Monique, Olivia, Addison, Dylin, Blake, Cameron, Jaxson, Alexia, Braydon, Caleb, and Dawson, and her sister Loretta (Harlan) Henry of Decorah, IA.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Linus on November 24, 1999, son Kevin Bohr, brothers Eldon and Paul Gossman, and her sisters Dolores (Eugene) Daley and Sadie (Art) Wilhelm.
