Janice D Schmitt

Janice D. Schmitt, 77 of Lime Springs, IA, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at home surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, IA, with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Cresco, IA.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home Cresco.  Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of service Saturday at the church.

Janice Darlene Rosendahl was born on May 12, 1940, in Calmar, IA to Herman and Leona Rosendahl.  Janice attended St. Aloysius Catholic grade school, and graduated in 1958 from Calmar High School.  She married LaVern Schmitt on June 18, 1958, at St. Aloysius Church in Calmar, IA.  LaVern was drafted into the Army in 1958, where he served 8 ½ years.  Janice went with him to Seaside California, then to Kileen, TX where their son, Bryan, was born.  Then they moved to Ft. Atkinson, IA and daughter Julie was born.  In 1963, they moved to Cresco.  For 12 years Janice worked for Dr. Donald Maland’s office at the Cresco Medical Clinic.  After Dr. Maland retired she began working in the office for Crestwood Junior High School.  Janice was not afraid of hard work and helped on the farm any way that she could.  During harvest Janice could be seen hauling grain with the semi. She enjoyed her vegetable garden, flowers, and keeping up on yard work.  She also liked canning, crocheting, sewing and crafting. But she enjoyed reading the most, and was an avid reader.  She especially loved spending time with her grandsons.  Janice belonged to the Cresco Red Hat Society, Regional Health Services Hospital Auxiliary, Howard County Farm Bureau Women's Committee, Mobile Food Pantry volunteer, and Notre Dame Circles of Faith.  Janice and LaVern enjoyed wintering in south Texas for 19 years.  They made many close friends at their park in Mercedes, TX.

She is survived by her husband LaVern of 59 years, son Bryan (Betty) Schmitt of Cresco, IA, daughter Julie (Mike) Pfeffer of Grand Rapids, MN. Two grandsons, Adam Schmitt of Cresco and Eric (Heidi) Schmitt of Algona, IA. Two step grandsons, Mitchell (Kayla) Pfeffer of Gibbon, MN and Trent (Samantha Klitzke) Pfeffer of Chanhassen, MN. Sister Carolee (Norman) Oberheu of Denver, IA, and brother Dennis (Mary Ann) Rosendahl of Des Moines, IA.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Leona Rosendahl and infant daughter Lisa Dawn Schmitt.
