Funeral Mass for Jerry Simon will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at St Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley, MN with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating.  Burial will be in Southeastern Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Preston, Minnesota.  Visitation will be held 6:30-7:30 P.M. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley, MN with the rosary being recited at 6:15 P.M. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Jerry Simon, 85, of Spring Valley, MN, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016, at his home in Spring Valley, MN.

Jerry was born to Hugh and Ellen (Rafoth) on March 28, 1931, in Spring Valley Township, Minnesota.  Jerry went to school in Spring Valley, Minnesota.  He was drafted into the Army on March 17, 1954, and served until March 13, 1956.  He took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he was trained as an Army cook.  After training he served in Austria and Germany.  On December 27, 1969, he married Winifred “Winnie” Winkels at St. Pius Catholic Church, Rochester, Minnesota.  They lived in Spring Valley, Minnesota.  Jerry was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW.  He was past commander of the American Legion.  He was, also, past president of the 4th Armored Calvary Recon BNASSNBN (1996-1997).  He retired from Libby McNeil Libby and Seneca Foods in 1996.

Jerry is survived by his wife Winnie, sons Hugh (Rebekah) Simon of Mountain Lake, MN and John (Jenny) Simon of Spring Valley, MN, grandchildren Martina, Naomi, Faith, Isaac, and Odin, brother, Eugene, sisters, Helen “Dolly” (Weldon) Eggler and Ann (Richard) Heppellmann, and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Ellen, and his brothers James, Anton, William, Theodore, Clair, and Carl.
