Leonard P. Barta, age 94, of Cresco, IA, died Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2016, at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, IA. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery Spillville, IA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, at the church. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 404 N Elm Street Cresco, IA is in charge of arrangements.
Leonard Barta was born on August 18, 1921, son of Frank and Barbara (Kabela) Barta in Spilleville, IA. He attended Parochial school in Spillville. Leonard worked as a carpenter most of his life retiring in 2001. He spent his free time crafting churches, crosses, log cabins, letter holders, and rolling pins with handles out of wood. Leonard enjoyed bowling, fishing, baking and cooking, Bingo, and paddle wheel. He was known for making a delicious eggnog pie and the perfect cup of coffee.
Surviving Leonard is his sister Margaret Hruska of Apache Junction, AZ, and niece Diane Kovarik of Cresco, IA.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers, and sisters.
