Martin L Souhrada

Martin Souhrada, age 62, of Grand Meadow, MN died Tuesday August 23, 2016 at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center in Grand Meadow following a courageous battle with Glioblastoma Multiform Brain Cancer.

Martin was born March 08, 1954 to Darrell and Marketta (Funke) Souhrada in Adams, MN. He attended and graduated from Riceville High School in 1972 and farmed for a several years.  Martin was united in marriage to Michalene “Mickey” Downing in Osco, IL and were together for 38 years before Mickey’s death in May of this year.  Martin worked at Home Federal in Spring Valley, ran M&M Computer services and most recently at the Dan Abrahams Healthy Living Center at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  He enjoyed working in the garden, doing yard work, and learning new things. He also loved animals especially dogs and cats and he always wanted to raise chickens and bees.  Martin was able to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree in Technology Information Management and was able to obtain his  Masters degree this past February while he was enduring radiation and chemotherapy. He was a selfless, caring individual whose love for life shined through all his difficult battles. He was all heart and soul.

Martin is survived by 4 children; Tia Souhrada of TX, Crystal Souhrada of Owatonna, MN, Jolene Souhrada of Grand Meadow, MN and Ricky Souhrada of Austin, MN, his mother Marketta Souhrada of Riceville, IA, siblings; Darrell (Donna) Souhrada Jr. of Saratoga, IA, Sharry (Lee) Meyer of New Hartford, IA, Pam (Al) Kruger of Saratoga, IA, Mike (Joanne) Souhrada of Ostrander, MN and John (Sam) Souhrada of Waverly, IA and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father and his wife Mickey. 

A celebration of Life will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on September 17, 2016   at the Stewartville United Methodist Church, 900 John Wesley Avenue NW, Stewartville, MN.
