Todd E. Schmauss

Todd E. Schmauss, age 35, of Decorah, Iowa, formerly of Cresco, IA, died on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Regional Health Services of Howard County.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015, at First Congregational Church (130 3rd Ave. East) in Cresco, Iowa, with Pastor Tim Sir and Father Dennis Cain presiding.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 404 N Elm Street Cresco, IA.  Visitation will continue at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.

Todd Eugene Schmauss was born on May 17, 1980, in Cresco, IA, son of John and Nancy (Schoeberl) Schmauss.  In 1998, Todd graduated from Crestwood High School, he went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Fitness Management from Upper Iowa University.  While attending Iowa Central he was a junior college wrestling All American.  After college Todd played semi-pro football for the Rochester Giants.  Todd was the owner and operator of The Mat in Decorah, Iowa.  He trained extensively and won the Midwest MMA Heavy Weight title.  Todd had a heart of gold and a great sense of humor.  His true passion in life was coaching and inspiring area youth and young adults to see the potential in themselves.  Todd enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.  On July 2, 2011, Todd married Kimberly Johnson in Cresco, IA.  Todd cherished his wife Kim and her three children.

Surviving Todd is his wife Kim of Decorah, IA, and her children Stella, Greta, and Gus, his parents John and Nancy Schmauss of Cresco, two brothers Thomas (Laura) Schmauss of Cresco, and their children Mitchell and Carter, and Brady (Megan) Schmauss of Denver, IA, Father and Mother-in-law Larry and Sharon Johnson of Decorah, brothers-in-law Jason (Heather) Johnson of Dorchester, IA, Chad Johnson of Waukon, IA, Jeremiah Johnson of Decorah, sister-in-law Ashley (Justin) Ahlstrom of Waukon, grandmother-in-law Sylvia Marti of Marion, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Todd in death were his paternal grandparents Francis and Bernice Schmauss, and maternal grandparents Eugene and Elsie Schoeberl.
