Michael Donald Broghammer

Michael Donald Broghammer, age 67, of Cedar Rapids, IA, formerly of Cresco, IA, died on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Mike was born on June 21, 1956 to Leonard and Margaret (Miskimins) Broghammer in Cresco, IA.  He attended school in Cresco and graduated from Crestwood High School in 1974.  After high school, Mike attended Wartburg College, where he played football and wrestled.  A formidable athlete, he showcased his prowess on the football field and wrestling mat, earning recognition as an all-conference running back in 1977 and achieving the status of an All-American wrestler in 1978, securing the 6th rank nationally.

Beyond his college years, Mike's zest for life manifested in his active participation in rugby teams, softball leagues, ski clubs, and various recreational sports. His boundless energy and love for camaraderie extended into his professional life, where he served as an Assistant Vice President and Marketing Manager in the field of insurance until retirement.

Known for his deep appreciation of sports, music, and social interactions, Mike's vibrant spirit was reflected in his penchant for giving nicknames to everyone he met. His philosophy of giving 100% in everything he did, resonated with those who knew him, underscoring his passion and dedication.

Mike is survived by his two sisters Jane (Broghammer) Davis and Judy (Broghammer) Wengryn and two daughters Molly (Broghammer) Gear and Rachel Broghammer, and two granddaughters. He has 5 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Margaret Broghammer, his brother Mark Broghammer, and his nephew Tarrell Davis.

A Prayer Service for Mike will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, IA, with LeRoy Webb officiating.  A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the start of the service from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, IA.
