Richard Dean Thorson

Richard (Dick) Dean Thorson, age 77, of Spring Valley, Minnesota, passed away on March 29, 2024. He was born on February 27, 1947, to Gerald and Wilma Thorson. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Deborah, his daughter Amy Storm, son Gerald (Cecilia) Thorson, granddaughter Teagan Storm, grandson Richard Thomas Thorson and his brothers Jerald “Jed” (Judy) Thorson, Bradley (Sue) Thorson and Thomas (Julie) Thorson. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Wilma Thorson and sister Judith Thorson Vagts.

Richard was a proud alumnus of Harmony High School and Bemidji State. He served in the United States Air Force, where he demonstrated his dedication to his country. After his military service, Richard pursued a career as the Director of Operations for the city of Dillon, Montana, for 19 years. He was a skilled grantsman and served his community in various ways, including overseeing the construction of multiple low-income housing buildings. After retirement, Richard patrolled the beautiful mountains of Montana, working for the US Forest Service.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Richard valued his relationships with his high school classmates and cherished the reunions with them. His impact on his community and his commitment to service will be remembered by all who knew him.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony, MN. Committal services will take place that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN.   

In lieu of memorial gifts, the family requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans Fund.
