Alvena Glynn

Memorial Services for Alvena Glynn will be held at 5:00 P.M. Sunday February 11, 2018 at Grand Meadow Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow with Rev Marie Anderson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at the church.

Alvena Glynn, age 103, died Friday February 9, 2018 at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center in Grand Meadow where she had resided for a short time.

Alvena was born April 20, 1914 in Clare, IA to Pearl Cecil  and Maude (Gill) Travis. She attended country school in Bennington Township, Mower County and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1934. While in high school Alvena played two years on the undefeated girls basketball team. On April 17, 1938 she was united in marriage to Elmore “John” Glynn and together they lived in the Grand Meadow area all their lives. John died in 1977. In her early years Alvena worked as a switchboard operator in Grand Meadow and was a homemaker for the majority of her life. In her free time she enjoyed quilting, painting, re-upholstering furniture and decorating. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, playing bridge, entertaining and was a member of the sewing club in Grand Meadow.

She is survived by two sons; James D. (Betty) Glynn of Sanger, CA and Doug (Polly) Glynn of Grand Meadow, MN, 9 grand children, 15 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and a sister Beulah Ankeny of Stewartville, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Larry Glynn and one daughter, Linda Severson. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Angela Kraetch, a great-granddaughter Heather Kraetch, one sister Iona Wurn and a brother Bill Travis.
