Obituary

Arthur Melvin Overcott, 84, of Preston, Minnesota died on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. 

Art was born September 21, 1938 in Minneapolis to Arthur and Evelyn (Pengra) Overcott. He grew up in Minneapolis with 5 brothers and sisters. After high school he served in the Army, mostly in Germany, where he also learned something of his German heritage. Following his discharge from the Army, he met and married Nancy Hielsberg from Faribault, Minnesota who was also of German heritage. He attended the University of Minnesota and Arizona State University, and graduated with a degree in geography. In 1978, Art and Nancy moved to the big woods of Fillmore County, where they built their own home and workshop and Art began his furniture making business. 

Art enjoyed traveling with Nancy, motorcycling, sailing, photography and his pet cats. In 2000, the couple moved to Preston 

Art is survived by his wife Nancy, three daughters Andrea, Martha and Gloria, two grandchildren, one sister Susie, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Jim and Robert, and two sisters Jean and Carol. 

It was Arthur’s wish not to have any services held.
