Bernice E. Root, 92, of rural Spring Valley died Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, MN.
A visitation will be held from 4-7p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Wykoff. The funeral service will be held on August 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Cherry Grove United Methodist Church with Pastor Deanna Woodward and Pastor Mark Rader officiating. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Hindt Funeral Home of Spring Valley is in charge of arrangements.
Bernice Elner Root was born on June 5, 1926, in Forrestville Township, MN to Harold and Gladys (Vrieze) Lentz. She was a graduate of Spring Valley High School. On September 22, 1943, Bernice was united in marriage to Doane at Evangelical Church Parsonage. She watched Doane play fast pitched softball for many years. Bernice was a hardworking farmwife and homemaker. In her free time, she enjoyed word find puzzles, fishing, crocheting, and taking care of her big garden. She also loved mowing lawn and always had a pot of coffee ready. Bernice made sure to keep up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bernice is survived by her children; John (Margaret) Root of Lewiston, MN, Bob (Mary Ann) Root of Spring Valley, MN, Steve (Cheryl) Root of Byron, MN, and Bryan (Michelle) Root of Wykoff, MN; daughter-in-law Christine Root of Harmony, MN; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren; and a sister Arlone Crowson of Hastings, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Doane, son Harry Root, granddaughter Amy Root, two brothers, and three sisters.
