Betty M. Thompson, 91, of Spring Valley, MN died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Ostrander Care & Rehab in Ostrander, MN.
Funeral services for Betty Thompson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with Rev. Mark Van House and Rev. Betsy Dartt officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, January 6 at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Spring Valley Cemetery.
Betty Maxine Thompson was born in Spring Valley on December 31, 1927 to Herman and Laura (Berg) Kohn. On October 27, 1946, Betty was married to Rals Parker Bumgarner who later died in an auto accident on July 14, 1955. Together Betty and Rals had two children She was later married to George Thompson on March 21, 1959 in Spring Valley and to this union, two more children were born. Betty worked at the Friendly Inn in Spring Valley and was later employed at the Spring Valley nursing home where she cleaned and provided laundry service.
Betty enjoyed playing Bingo, listening to country music, gardening, cooking, and was a talented quilter. Her favorite hobby, however, was crocheting. Betty was known for never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. She was also considered to be the best babysitter. In addition to her several hobbies, Betty was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her children; Steve Thompson of Spring Valley, Renita Mentes of Kasson, MN, and Cheryl (Cory) Boettcher of Owatonna, MN, siblings; Lois Holets of Rochester, MN, Laurence (EllaRita) Kohn of Hollendale, MN, Kenneth (Suzy) Kohn of Spring Valley, Linda (Leland) Rentschler of Spring Valley, and Janice (Bruce) Furman of Glencoe, MN; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great- great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Rals Parker Baumgartner, her second husband George Thompson in 2000, a son Gary Bumgarner and his wife Lois, a grandson Gary Bumgarner Jr., and a brother Wendall Kohn.
