DaRhonda K. Schatz, 56, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, IA after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial for DaRhonda will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery Cresco, Iowa. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Heritage Events Center, 229 3rd Ave. West, Cresco, Iowa with a scripture service to follow. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
DaRhonda was born on January 16, 1957 to Irven and Norma (Scheidel) Reicks in Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from Crestwood High School in 1975. On February 5, 1977, DaRhonda married Thomas Schatz at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cresco. DaRhonda worked as a lab tech in the Cresco Hospital and the New Hampton Clinic. She enjoyed farming with her family, tending to her numerous flower gardens, mowing the lawn, and cooking for family and friends. Scrapbooking, traveling, and going out to eat were among her favorite activities. DaRhonda was a very giving person, and her infectious smile could cheer up anyone. DaRhonda especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, and taking them to the park for a picnic and to play.
She is survived by her husband, Tom of Lime Springs, IA, her sons, Andrew (Krystal) Schatz of Calmar, IA, and Aaron (Melissa) Schatz of Cresco, and their children, Nolan and Alanna, her parents, Irven and Norma Reicks of Cresco, sister, Brenda (Kevin) Valley, of Rochester, MN, brother, Randy (Karry) Reicks, of Necedah, WI, her mother-in-law, Dolores Schatz of Cresco, sisters-in-law, Norma (Gary) Coleman of Carrollton, TX, Mary (Jim) Brigham of West Farlee, VT, Josette (Duane Irwin) Wilcox of Rochester, MN, Janet (Thom) Mahr of Lime Springs, IA, Margaret (Robert) Ward of Ridgeway, IA, brothers-in-law, Robert (Mary) Schatz of Lime Springs, IA, and Donald (Carol Arneson) Schatz of Cresco, IA.
Preceding her in death is her infant son, Timothy, father-in-law, Wilfred Schatz, maternal grandparents, Rudy and Angeline Scheidel, and paternal grandparents, Anton and Mary Reicks.
