Funeral Mass for Donald W. Adams will be held 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday May 7, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, IA with Father Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Riceville. Visitation will be held at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Riceville from 4-7 P.M. Monday with a rosary being recited at 3:30 P.M. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 until time of service at the church.

Donald W. Adams, age 95, of Riceville, IA died Friday May 3, 2019 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, IA. He was born April 13, 1924 in Stratford, WI to Edward and Pauline (Hemann) Adams. Don attended Catholic School through the 8th grade in Meyer, IA. He quit school to help his father on the farm. Don also worked for Bob Dunlay on his farm before entering the service in 1943 at the age of 19. He served until November of 1945 in Company E, 2nd Battalion 12th regiment being stationed In France and Germany. Don earned two purple hearts and two Bronze Stars. Following his discharge he returned to Iowa and began working at Hormel Foods in Austin, MN. On January 11, 1947 he was united in marriage to Doris Moore at St Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven. Following their marriage they lived in Waverly, IA where Don worked for the local plumber before moving to Cedar Rapids where he worked for Cedar Rapids Block Co. Don and Doris later moved to the Riceville area where he farmed for a number of years before becoming a rural mail carrier which he did for many years before retiring in 1984. Don was a member and trustee of St Mels Catholic Church in McIntire before becoming a member of Immaculate Conception in Riceville, he was also a trustee for Wayne Twp., was on the ASCS Committee , served on the Bailey School Board, and was a longtime member of the Stacyville Legion where he was a part of the honor guard for many funerals. He enjoyed going to auctions, woodworking, working in the yard and helping local farmers after his retirement.

He is survived by his wife Doris of Riceville, his children; Donald “Sonny” (Kathy) Adams of LeRoy, MN, John (Rhonda) Adams of Peterson, MN, Diane (Tom “Sam”) Howland of Riceville, Jim (Dawn) Adams of Little Cedar and daughter-in-law Deb Adams of Orlando, FL, 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, 6 siblings; Agnes Domino of Adams, MN, Alex Adams of Riceville, Virginia Lundberg of Austin, MN,  Harry (Jean) Adams of Lynn Haven, FL, Gladys Severson of University Place, WA, and Edward “Buddy” (Liz) Adams of Waverly, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Dean, a great- granddaughter Brooke Elliott, siblings; Harold and Lucy and several Brother and sister in-laws and nieces and nephews.
