Erwin Ruesink, 103, of Spring Valley, Minnesota died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Spring Valley Care Center from natural causes.
Erwin was born to Gerrit and Grace Ruesink in Bristol Township on September 14, 1914. He attended and graduated from a rural school, Preston High School and Teachers Normal Training. He married Carmen Kruegel on August 2, 1938. They both taught in rural schools for several years before they began farming east of Cherry Grove. While farming, Erwin became Manager of Bloomfield Mutual Insurance Company in 1944. Erwin and Carmen moved to Spring Valley in 1953.
In addition to managing Bloomfield Mutual Insurance Company, Erwin became President and a Director of Spring Valley Mutual Tornado Company and the Field Representative for the state of Minnesota for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company of Grinnell, Iowa. Erwin also actively served on several committees of the Minnesota Association of Farm Mutual Insurance Companies and became its Chairman in 1981.
Erwin was a lifelong member of Greenleafton Reformed Church, teaching Sunday School, chairing several committees and serving in various leadership positions. He was a member of the Spring Valley Kiwanis Club and served as Treasurer of the Spring Valley Historical Society. He is survived by his two sons, Robert (Joyce) of Boise, ID, and Arlyn (Vicki Zimmerman) of Roseville; four grandchildren, Michelle (Scott) Beckers of Brooklyn Park, Brant (Tammi) of Nampa, ID, Benjamin (Kelly Caldwell) of Maple Grove and Bethany (Pete Winecke) of Maple Grove; six great-grandchildren, Allyson, Tyler and Connor Beckers, A. Kyle and Bradon Ruesink and Nathan Findorff. His loving wife, Carmen, died in 1993 after 55 years of marriage.
A funeral service is planned for Friday, February 2, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at the Greenleafton Reformed Church in rural Preston, with Pastor Roger Lokker officiating. Burial will be in the Greenleafton Cemetery.
Hindt Funeral Homes in Spring Valley is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is at the funeral home on Thursday, February 1 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
