A celebration of life for Gayland Leigh Jones will be held at 11:00 A.M. on June 20, 2017 at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home in LeRoy. Burial will take place at a later date in the Bloomfield Cemetery, Bloomfield Township.
Gayland Jones, age 73, of Spring Valley and formerly of Harmony died June 17, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – St Marys Campus.
He was born June 30, 1943 in Rochester to Lester and Alta (Larson) Jones. Gayland attended and and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1960. He continued his education at the University of MN and continued to live in Minneapolis until 1967 when he moved to California where he lived in the Los Angeles area until 1984 when he returned to Minnesota. Over the years Gayland worked for Caterpillar, G.E., worked in collections, farmed and worked as a photographer. He enjoyed going to auctions, buying things and going out to eat. He had a wonderful laugh and a gift for telling stories.
He is survived by 2 sisters, Joyce Pogers of Danbury, CT and Ann (Bob) Reynolds of LeRoy, MN and a brother Lon (Judy) Jones of Rochester, MN, 1 nephew, Mark (Janna) Pogers and their daughter Audrianna of Wake Forest, NC, and a niece, Heather (Rob) Potteiger and their son Aiden of Maple Grove, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-nephew Maxwell Reid.
