Gerald was such a kind hearted man and I laughed at he part about never selling the cars, etc. He was truly a man to be admired for the way he lived his life, and this is evident by the kids he raised. I remember when we went to the Valley and filmed 'the Goodtime Valley Gang' for my college project. What a goofy time and he was so patient and such a pleasure to be around.

My deepest sympathies to the Schacht family. I have so many memories from my childhood/teen years - from his painting my bicycle at the body shop free of charge, teaching me how to ride a minibike, allowing me to help paint stock cars, to his on-going presence and support to the Decorah Kilties. He was a wonderful man, and will certainly be missed.

Jerry was and always will be the finest person I ever met. He always did things for everyone else first and had the biggest heart of anyone I've ever met. I was blessed to have known Jerry as a teenager and throughout my life. Thank you for all you did for me and making me the person I have become. I will never forget the great memories. Jeep on my friend.

Everett always enjoyed stopping to visit Gerald whenever we went to Decorah and Gerald always always came out and visited me in the van before we left. I know he will be missed. God bless.
