James "Jimmy" F Sweeney

James "Jimmy" F.  Sweeney, died September 6th, 2019, at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center, Riceville, Iowa.  Jimmy had previously lived at the Howard Residential Care Facility since 1977.  When Jimmy’s health condition required a higher level of care, he was transferred to the Riceville Home in 2015.

Marilyn and Buzz Ott obtained guardianship in 1977 and brought Jimmy from Woodward to the Howard County Care Farm in 1977.  Jimmy enjoyed the farm life and being around the cows, pigs, chickens, cats, and dogs.  He helped with many of the necessary chores including milking and baling hay.  He played basketball with the other residents and was coached by Jim Ott. He enjoyed and participated in all scheduled activities at the Howard Residential Care Facility.  In addition to basketball, he enjoyed shooting pool on a table located near the dining room.  Jimmy would also attend camp with his friends in summer at Albrecht Acres.  While in Riceville, Jimmy continued his love for coloring and watching funny movies such as Scooby Doo and The Three Stooges.  His laughter in such things was truly contagious.

Jimmy is survived by his guardian and friend, Mary Larson, of Lime Springs; caregivers and friends at Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center, and his many caregivers and friends from the Howard Residential Care Facility.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center in Riceville, Iowa with Father Jerry Kopacek officiating.  Burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery following service.
