Jean Ann (Ede) Ries

Jean Ann (Ede) Ries, age 68 of Spring Valley, MN passed away on Monday February 12, 2018 at the Spring Valley Care Center in Spring Valley, MN.

A gathering for friends and family will be from 1-4 P.M. on Saturday March 10, 2018 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley, MN. There will be a rosary service prior to the gathering at 12:30 P.M. Burial will be at St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Hindt Funeral Homes in Spring Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Jean was born to Roy and Frances Ede on April 14, 1949. She graduated from West Union High School and worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married Edward Ries on April 20, 1968 in Elma. They lived in Charles City before moving to the farm in Elma. Jean was a stay at home mom until her children were in school. At that time, Jean returned to the work force at LPC in LeRoy, MN. In 1992, Jean and Ed moved to Spring Valley, MN. Jean continued her employment through TRW in Rushford, MN and Rochester Medical in Stewartville before retiring.

Jean enjoyed crafts such as painting ceramics, crocheting, cross stitching, and sewing. She enjoyed being a part of a bowling league in Riceville, and was fond of playing cards with friends and watching her granddaughters grow. She particularly enjoyed spending time watching and feeding the birds and other critters in her yard.

Jean is survived by her mother Frances Ede; husband, Ed; two children: son Kevin (Shirley) Ries of DeWitt, MI, and daughter Kelli (Tony) Larimer of Spring Valley, MN. She also leaves behind her granddaughters Ashley Zimmerman, Taylor Zimmerman, Danielle Ries, Gabrielle Ries, Courtney Jean Ries, and 2 step-granddaughters, Shelby Larimer and Erin Larimer. She is preceded in death by her father Roy.
