Jean Witt Obituary

Jean Ann (Tubach) Witt, 78, passed away at home in Spring Valley, MN on September 30, 2018.

Memorial Service for Jean Witt will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, MN with Rev. Donna Dempewolf officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. on Saturday morning at the church prior to the service. A luncheon will follow.

Jean was born January 18, 1940 in Falls City, NE. She was a graduate of Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, and then Westmar College in LeMars, IA. She married Norman Witt on June 5, 1964.

As Norman served six Southern Minnesota communities as a United Methodist Pastor, Jean served those same communities as a registered nurse. She worked first with adults with mental and physical disabilities in Mankato. The majority of her working life was spent at Ostrander Nursing Home near Spring Valley, and with Hospice Care in Luverne, MN. She was an exceptional nurse to those in the later stages of life.

Jean was a prolific artist with a wide variety of interests including gardening, jewelry making, sewing, cooking, candy making, and a host of other creative pursuits. She was especially talented in the family art of china painting that she learned from her parents. She went on to study with some of the best-known local, national, and international porcelain art teachers. Jean currently has several award-winning pieces on display at the World Organization of China Painters Museum in Oklahoma City, OK, and has also had her work published in national porcelain art magazines.

Jean was a great lover of literature, movies, and the theater. She was especially fond of both the Commonweal Theater in Lanesboro, MN and the American Players Theater in Spring Green, WI. She also enjoyed traveling both within the United States and abroad with her children and grandchildren. As beloved matriarch, the traditions she created for her family will be carried on for generations.

Jean is survived by her husband, Norman (81), children Kristin (Mike) Erlandsen, Eric Witt, and Amy (Craig) Osman; and grandchildren Rachel Erlandsen, Kia and Carissa Witt, and Samuel and Jo Beth Osman.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Gladys Maye (Iwig) Tubach and her sister Barbara Jo (Tubach) Stillson.
