Leona Urban

Leona Urban, 91, of Cresco, IA, died on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Accura Healthcare of Cresco.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

Leona Urban was born on February 9, 1928, to Louis and Mary (Fallada) Urban near Lourdes, Iowa.  She was the youngest of 13 children. Growing up on a farm, Leona helped care for their big garden, cows, pigs, turkeys, chickens, ducks, guineas, and their cats which she was very fond of. She was always careful to make sure her cats got their milk. She would stay with her sisters and help take care of their kids, as well as, helping her nieces with their children. Leona enjoyed watching TV and a few of her favorite programs were “The Old West,”  “Little House on the Prairie,”  “Walker, Texas Ranger.”  She was an active member of Lourdes Parish until 2004. One of her most memorable qualities is that she always said, “God bless you” to everyone. When her family would join her for dinners at Accura, she would sing old-time songs for those around her to enjoy. In her last days, she especially enjoyed singing Christmas songs and carols. Leona will always be remembered for the big smile she always had on her face.

Leona is survived by her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis William and Mary Catherine Urban, and her 12 siblings: Clara Stejskal, Helen Stejaskal, Anne Urban, Mary Urban, Zita Shock, Theresa DuCharme, Wenzel, Frank, Cletus, Louis, Joseph and Thomas.
