Robert Edward Blahnik

Robert “Bob”  Blahnik, age 72, of Spring Valley passed away Monday April 9, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services for Bob Blahnik will be held 10:30 am Friday April 13, 2018 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating.  Burial will take place at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.  Rosary service will be at 4:45 p.m. with visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday April 12 at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Robert Edward Blahnik was born June 22, 1945 in Austin, MN to Fred and Catherine (Snyder) Blahnik. He grew up on a dairy farm near Spring Valley and graduated from Spring Valley High School. Bob enrolled at Rochester Junior College before attending and graduating from Winona State University in 1967 with a teaching degree in education. He worked in the Byron School District teaching Civics, American History, and Drivers Ed. for a couple years. Bob realized he wanted to further his education so he enrolled at the University of Iowa to study law. He started his law career working for Clem Snyder in Preston in 1972. From 1976 to 1987 Bob dedicated his skills as the “country lawyer” for Spring Valley. In 1987 he merged his practice with Baulder, Baulder, and Maus law firm until retirement in 2011.

On May 5, 1973 he was united in marriage to Patricia Boucsein at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley. Bob enjoyed spending time on his farm, fishing, and reading Western novels. He was a good conversationalist and was respected and trusted by all. Bob loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids. He was an active member at St. Ignatius Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Bob was also a member on the Nursing Home Board and Spring Valley Mutual Insurance.

Bob is survived by his wife Patricia “Pat” of Spring Valley; children: James (Terri) Blahnik of Mankato, MN, Joel (Tonya) Blahnik of Rochester, MN, Jon Blahnik of Owatonna, MN, Shannon (Kent) Bezdicek of Hokah, MN, and Emily Blahnik of Rochester; 2 grandchildren: Jacob and Andrew; 3 step-grandchildren: Matthew, Marshall and Mason; siblings: Rose Van Kirk of Spring Valley, MN, Richard (Sheila) Blahnik of Winona, MN, Roger Blahnik of North Branch, MN, and Tom (Jackie) Blahnik of St. Charles, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
