Robert Norman Weness
Bob was born in Austin, MN in February of 1941, to Clifford and Lillie (Halverson) Weness. He was raised on the family farm north of Adams, MN, along with his siblings, David and Linda. Bob was baptized and confirmed at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams.
Bob passed away December 20, 2018 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He graduated from Adams High School in 1959, where he served as co-captain of the Adams Tigers football and basketball teams. Bob was president of his school FFA chapter, president of the Luther League chapter and has enjoyed staying in touch with his classmates through the years. He attended Walforf College for a time and then bought a milk route and a dairy herd and started farming.
Bob married Beverly Soltau in August of 1962, at the Presbyterian Church in LeRoy. He was active in community affairs, serving on the LeRoy Farmers Coop board, the DHIA board, as supervisor and treasurer on the LeRoy Township Board, he served as president of the LeRoy Lutheran Church council.
Bob and Bev hosted several foreign exchange students through the University of Minnesota extension program. Students came from Germany, England and Brazil to spend time learning on their dairy farm.
After retiring from dairy farming, Bob worked for Koch Ag at LeRoy, McNeilus trucking, and Land ‘O Lakes at Pine Island where he transported milk.
Bob has always had a close relationship with his Weness cousins and enjoyed their gatherings and reunions, with Bob being the senior member of the group.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly, his sons, Daniel Weness and Michael Weness, beloved granddaughter, Brittnee Michelle Weness; brother David and sister-in-law Milda, sister Linda Johnson;
Brothers and sisters-in-law Robert and Janice Soltau, Richard Koch, Ronald and Barbara Bertsch, Thomas and Jill Soltau and Richard and Ann Soltau and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Lillie Weness, his parents-in-law Herbert and Kathleen Soltau, brother-in-law D. Douglas Johnson, sisters-in-law Juanita (Voigt) Soltau and Bertha (Bea) Koch.
Bob requested his body be donated to the Mayo Clinic for Research and teaching. Memorial services are planned for 11:00, January 5, 2019, to be held at Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams, MN.
