Vivian J. Shields

Vivian J. Shields, age 95, of Cresco, IA died Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Accura Healthcare.

Funeral Mass for Vivian will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 1, 2018, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, IA with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, IA. Visitation will be held from 10-11 A.M. Monday, October 1, 2018 at the church.  Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Vivian Joyce Shields was born July 23, 1923 in Howard County, IA to Fay and Elfrieda (Munkel) Farnsworth. She married James “Jim” Shields at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco, IA on December 29, 1941. Vivian started babysitting when her husband started his plumbing job, which she then continued for 37 years. She was very talented when it came to sewing and sewed wedding and bridesmaid dresses. 

She is survived by her children Eugene (Alice) Shields of Columbia, MD, Robert “Bob” (Kate) Shields of Littleton, CO, and Jeanette (Elson) Byler of Hills, IA, daughter-in-law Connie Shields of Wheat Ridge, CO, 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and brother Lee (Audrey) Farnsworth of Stewartville, MN and sister-in-law Carol Farnsworth of Rochester, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, son Leonard Shields, half-siblings Roger, Ervin, Hazel, and Victor, and siblings Gerald Farnsworth, Neil Farnsworth, Fay Farnsworth, Della Rasmusson, Edith Tupper, Goldie, June Smith, and Virgina Necas.
