Allen P. Moudry

Allen Moudry, 66, of Protivin, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 26 2022, at Regional Health Services in Cresco, IA.  He was enjoying his usual men’s Thursday night at the Cresco Country Club with friends where he collapsed and was unable to be revived.

Allen Paul Moudry was born on April 19, 1956 in Cresco, IA to LuVerne and Kay (Tupy) Moudry.  Allen attended grade school at Holy Trinity Catholic School and graduated from South Winn High School in 1974.  On December 29, 1975, he married his high school sweetheart, June Novak, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA.  To this union, three children were born: Brad (Amy), Sarah (Al) Njus, and Ben (Ericka). 

Allen and June farmed through the 70s and 80s.  He also worked as a carpenter with the Ondrashek brothers, Ron Novak, Steve Spalla, and Paul Quandahl through the years.  In 1989, he was hired by Lynch Livestock to manage the hog buying station in Cresco until his death.  In 2006, the opportunity came about for Allen and June to purchase the Cresco Livestock Market for marketing cattle, calves, sheep, and goats.  With the help of a great crew of employees, sales are still held on Monday afternoons where the saying goes, “My cow died so I don’t need your bull.”.

Allen loved working with animals all of his life.  Whether it was giving dogs and cats a little treat or chasing a cow or hog down the street.  He enjoyed the banter with the farmers, understood the ups and downs of farming life and had an opinion on just about everything,

He was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Church in Protivin where he served on the parish council and was a past Grand Knight of the KC’s.  He was currently serving on the board of directors at the Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, IA.

He leaves behind his wife, June, of 46 years of marriage, three children: Brad (Amy) of rural Protivin, IA, Sarah (Al) Njus of Pearland, TX, and Ben (Ericka) of Protivin, IA, and 8 grandchildren, his father LuVerne Moudry of Waucoma and one brother, Kevin of Decorah, IA.

Preceding him in death was his mother Kay Moudry and infant sister, Cheryl.

Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 4:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and will continue one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. A family rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday  

Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Trinity Catholic School, Protivin Fire Department, or Regional Health Services of Howard County.
