Arlene B. Staupe (age 98) passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at her home.  Arlene was born on August 26, 1925 at Pennock, Minnesota to Edward J. and Selma (Vogen) Anderson  At an early age, she and her family moved to Grandpa Vogen’s farm near Rushford, later moving to a farm in Pilot Mound Township near Lanesboro where she attended Ask Country School through eighth grade, then graduating in 1943 from Lanesboro High School.  She attended Winona Business College and, in June 1944, she began work as a medical secretary at the Mayo Clinic where she worked until December of 1947.

On February 15, 1948 she and Sanford Staupe of Preston were married at the North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Lanesboro.  They started farming on the Reuben Pfister farm in rural Preston, where she resided until her death.  They had three children:  Patricia (Patty), Lynn, and Dale.  Arlene was a stay-at-home mom until 1967 when she began working for Fillmore County, first as Clerk/Matron at the Fillmore County Sheriff’s office, then at Fillmore County Court as a deputy clerk.  She retired in 1994.

Arlene was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild, Christ Quilters, and bible study circle.  She made many quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief.  She also knit many caps for chemotherapy patients through the Volunteer Office at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Arlene is survived by her son, Lynn, of Preston.  She was preceded in death by her husband as well as children Patty and Dale.  Also preceding her in death were her sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Hal Whitfield, and a brother, Roger Anderson.
