Art Svestka

December 14, 1936 ~ November 1, 2020 (age 83)

Obituary

Arthur Ruben Svestka, 83, passed away at his home on November 1, 2020, surrounded by family.  Art was born on December 14, 1936 to Ruben and Jessie (Shimek) Svestka in Cresco, IA.  He graduated from Rudolphinium High School in Protivin, IA.  He married Lois Picht on June 3, 1961 and this past June they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

In 1957, Art began what became a 63-year career in the farm equipment business, a business he loved. He always gave each customer his full attention, his honesty, knowledge, and sales acumen made him a great person to do business with.

In addition to relationships with his customers, he also enjoyed golfing at the Cresco Country Club, was a proud member of the Notre Dame BPA, and always looked forward to the next game of Euchre or Booray. Having breakfast with his friends was always on his schedule and he and Lois enjoyed taking VIP bus trips.

Art and Lois lived a beautiful life together. They have four children; Mike, Jeff, Rochelle and Doug and seven grandchildren.  Their children and grandchildren give them so much joy.

Art was also committed to serving the community of Cresco. He served on the Jaycees and worked with the FFA, Cresco Board of Adjustment and the annual Ag Fest celebration.

In his free time Art could be found tinkering and creating Bohemian inventions in his garage - he could fix anything.  If you spent more than five minutes with Art, you knew he loved to talk.  He was a fountain of historical knowledge, trivia and endless stories and jokes. It was almost impossible not to have a great conversation with him.

He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and his community.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; son Mike (Sandy) of Owatonna, MN; son Jeff (Jessie Ping) of Rhonert Park, CA; daughter Rochelle of West Des Moines; son Doug (Jeni) of Lakeville MN; grandchildren Matt Svestka, Emily Pearson, Megan Pearson, Sunny Liang, Scarlett Svestka, Georgia Svestka and Mimi Svestka; brother Paul (Pat) Svestka; and sister-in-law Donna Svestka; and numerous nieces and nephews. .

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Giovanni Walton; brother Clair; brother-in-law Arnold Hruska, nephews Dean Hruska and Paul Svestka Jr.
