Betty J. Gronwoldt

Betty J. Gronwoldt, age 89, of Riceville, IA died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.

Funeral services for Betty will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville, IA with Pastor Michael Parris officiating. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City, IA. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019 at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Riceville and will continue for 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Betty Jean McBride was born January 3, 1930 to Walter and Louella (Hutchinson) McBride in Armstrong, IA. On October 19, 1952 she was united in marriage to Vern J. Gronwoldt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. To this union six children were born and Betty raised them all on the farm. She was very active in church activities at Zion Lutheran in Alta Vista, IA and at St. Peter's Lutheran in Riceville where she was most recently a member. Betty often spent time making quilts at church. She enjoyed having coffee in Riceville with the ladies every day.  Betty loved putting puzzles together, playing cards and games, going to rummage sales, and adding bells to her collection.

Betty is survived by her children James Gronwoldt of LeRoy, MN, Gary Gronwoldt of Burlington, IA, Virgil (Tina) Gronwoldt of Danbury, IA, Jean (Ralph) Young of Des Moines, IA, and Robert (Norma) Gronwoldt of Waterloo, IA, 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vern in 2011, daughter Nancy Spooner, six brothers George, Walter, Wayne, Lloyd, John, and Lawrence, and three sisters Dorothy, Helen, and Alice.
