David Patten

David Patten, 75, of Dexter, MN, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020 at his home.

David was born on February 20, 1945 in Spring Valley Township, MN to Gilbert and Vivian (Vrieze) Patten. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1963. Following graduation, he entered the Air Force where he worked as a mechanic for 5 ½ years.  On December 1, 1977, David was united in marriage to Judith DeVore in Cresco, IA, and they proceeded to have two children, daughter Kelly and son Daniel. David was very proud to be a Vietnam War veteran. After he was honorably discharged, he owned his own floor covering business, Patten Floor Covering, for 44 years. David could repair almost anything. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids.  

David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Patten of Dexter, daughter Kelly (Scott) Dreyer of Janesville, MN, 5 grandchildren Kinsey, Brevan, Kambryn, Ryland, and Brexton, siblings Ruth Brett of Mabel, MN, Bill Rodenz of Rochester, MN, Catherine Hagen of Spring Grove, MN, Marilyn Parks of Florida, Anna Miller of Spring Valley, and Lucy Crawford of Mabel, MN, aunts and uncles Donna Vrieze, JoAnne (Kenny) Vrieze, and Maxine Vrieze.

He was preceded in death by his son Daniel, mother Vivian, 2 half-brothers Peter and Bob, grandparents that raised him Harry and Winnie Vrieze, and uncles Avery and Calvin that were like brothers to him.

Funeral services for David will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow, MN with Pastor Larry Iverson officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Grand Meadow Cemetery. Social distancing will be practiced and masks will be required inside and outside for the safety of the family.
