Donald G. Olson

Donald G. Olson, age 80, died on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Hospitals, Methodist Campus.  

Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home Preston, MN.  Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery at a later time.

Donald Gene Olson was born on May 18, 1941, son of Tilman and Ella (Magnuson) Olson in Kasson, MN.  After graduating from Preston High School in 1959, Don began driving a milk truck.  In 1967, Don bought his farm outside of Fountain on Hwy 52 and a brand new Chevy Impala.  His father was worried that Don wouldn’t be able to pay both off, but Don’s hard work ethic proved Tilman wrong.  Shortly after purchasing his farm, Don began Olson Trucking.  He hauled grain for area farmers to Winona.  Don enjoyed staying busy and added a paper route for the Post Bulletin to his list of jobs.  When Don wasn’t working, he liked to tinker around his farm, make a yearly trip to the Cattle Congress in Waterloo, and attend tractor pulls, especially the ones in Tomah, WI.  

He is survived by his sons Mark (Sue) Kalstabakken of Colorado and Rick (Kris) Kalstabakken of Fountain, MN; grandchildren Meagen (Jelani) Liggins of Colorado, Beth (Adam) Kowalczyk of Winona, MN, Edward Kalstabakken of Winona, MN, Ashley Kalstabakken of Chatfield, MN, Brandon (Jennifer) Kalstabakken of Fountain, MN, and Melissa Kalstabakken of Fountain, MN; 5 great grandchildren Cameron, Dominic, Tyler, Chance and Camden; sister-in-law Glenda Olson of Spring Valley, MN; nieces and nephews Christine (Dan) Shaw of Adams, MN, Delicia (Justin) Duffy of Hazelton, IA, Matt (Lindsey) Olson of St. Charles, MN, Angela Olson of Preston, MN, and many great nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Sharon, brother David Olson, and niece Beth Olson.
