Doris P. Cummings

Doris P. Cummings, 94, of Riceville, IA, formerly of McIntire, IA, died Monday, July 18, 2022, at Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center.

Memorial services for Doris will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Riceville with Father Jerry Kopacek officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Riceville.

Doris Pearl Hanson was born on January 11, 1928, daughter of Elmer and Louise (Bell) Hanson in Taopi, MN.  She attended school in LeRoy; where she graduated.  On April 20, 1949, she married Thomas Cummings in Austin, MN.  At the age of 55 Thomas passed away.  Doris belonged to the St. Rita’s study club for many years, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 53 years.  She served 2 years as President of the American Legion Auxiliary.   In 1984, Doris met her significant other, Clifford Wuertz. For many years Doris wrote news articles for the Riceville and LeRoy papers.  Doris had the honor of being the Grand Marshall at the 125th McIntire parade.  She enjoyed time spent with the coffee gang and at family gatherings.  Doris liked to play cards, put together puzzles, crosswords, reading, going to the casino, and watching TV.  She was fond of lunching at different places with Cliff and searching through garage sales.  Doris was also known to have a sweet tooth.  

She is survived by her children,  Mike (Dee) Cummings of McIntire, IA, Marlys (Dennis) Mayer of Las Vegas, NV, Pat (Mike) Fuller of Waterloo, IA, Judy Carlson of Austin, TX, Spike Cummings of Dallas, TX, Sharon (Gary) Zobeck of Elma, IA, Steve (Lydia) Cummings of Waterloo, IA, John (Lori) Cummings of Rockwell, TX, Tom (Michelle) Cummings of Riceville, IA, Bob Cummings of Mason City, IA, son-in-law Dennis Miller of Waterville, MN, 24 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Diane Lauterbach of Grundy Center, IA, and Cliff’s children Jerilyn (Curtis) Floyd of Wentworth, SD, Teresa Swier of Madison, SD, Mark (Cecilia) Moen of Emmetsburg, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother and step-father Louise and Ted Lindeland, father Elmer, husband Thomas, significant other Cliff Wuertz, daughter Mavis Miller, son Kenny Cummings, daughter-in-law Lois Cummings, son-in-law Doug Carlson, grandson Michael Cummings,  granddaughter Allison Miller, and Cliff’s daughter Pamela Wingert.
