Douglas Jay Minnich

Douglas Jay Minnich, age 86, of Grand Meadow, MN died Friday February 26, 2021 at his home in Grand Meadow where he had lived since he was a child.

He was born January 25, 1935 to Guy and Edna (Ridgeway) Minnich in Iowa. At a young age he moved with his family to Grand Meadow where he attended school. Doug went on to Albert Lea Vo-Tech where he studied refrigeration later starting and running his own business, Doug’s Appliance Service.

Doug was united in marriage to Kaye Aug on December 19, 1958 in Greenleafton, MN and to this union three children were born, Saneita, Debra and Jay.  Kaye passed away on April 21, 2015. Doug loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Ella. Time spent watching her sporting activities, listening to her play piano, hunting and going fishing brought him great joy.  Doug also enjoyed gardening, tinkering, watching Minnesota Sports, the Twins, Vikings and Gophers. He was always the first one there to lend a helping hand for family and friends and he could fix just about anything.

He is survived by his children; Saneita Ludemann of Rochester, MN, Debra (Eric Shoop) Minnich of Grand Meadow, MN and Jay (Julie) Minnich of Stewartville, MN, a granddaughter; Ella Marie Minnich, a grandson; Ethan Yost of Stewartville, MN, step-grandchildren Joe (Angie) Ludemann, Jennifer (Andy) Langholz and Kristen (Justin) Frana, 5 step-great-grandchildren and siblings Jolle Davis of Rochester and Harley (Helen) Minnich of Texas, a brother-in-law Richard (Carol) Aug of Rochester and a sister-in-law Faye Alden of Austin, MN. He is also survived by special friend Marge Foster of Grand Meadow.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and siblings; Everett, John, Tom, LeRoy, Max, Gertrude, Inez, Ila, Ruth and Kate.
