Eloise Hoff Obituary

Mary Ann Eloise Hoff, age 90, left this earth on September 5, 2021 to fill an empty place in God’s beautiful garden.  Eloise Hoff was born November 19, 1930 in Spring Grove, MN to Gilman Owen and Minnie Ovedia (Aasum) Myrah and was the oldest of five children growing up in Spring Grove.  She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1948 and went on to Winona State College.  Eloise married the love of her life, Earl Roy Hoff, on June 25, 1951.  To this union, five children were born, Deborah (Chuck) Jeffers of Preston, MN, Bruce (Teresa Cummings) of Preston, Gregory (LuAnn Milne) of Preston, Brian (Carolyn Anderson) of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Bradley (Janet Krupski) of Big Lake, MN. 

Eloise was a stay-at-home mom until the youngest of the children went to elementary school.  She worked at Root River Insurance Agency and Farmers & Merchants Bank in Preston for 25 years.  Eloise was a very faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Preston for over 60 years where she was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Luther League advisor, Church Council secretary, and involved with the Altar Guild, WELCA, WELCA Conference Board, SE MN Synodical WELCA, Christ Quilters, Do-Day, and Prayer Shawl Ministry.  Eloise was also very instrumental in the organization and success of the annual Lutefisk and Meatball Dinner where she held the position of Chairperson for 18 years.  Outside of her Church interests, Eloise was a Boy Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, involved with the Fillmore County American Cancer Society, Preston Golf & Country Club, Mr. and Mrs. Garden Club, Bridge Club, Sewing Club, Luren Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, and in 2008 she and her husband were honored to be the Preston Trout Days Grand Marshalls. 

Eloise had a passion for quilting and over the years had made many quilts for different people, including one for each of her children and grandchildren.  She was always ready and willing to help anyone wishing to learn the art.  In addition to quilting, Eloise had a love for gardening, especially flower gardens, along with sewing and knitting.  She had knitted many Norwegian dolls over the years.   

Eloise had a heart of gold and was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  She took great pride in attending school, sporting and church events of both her children and grandchildren. 

Eloise was preceded in death by her husband in 2009, her parents, infant grandson Jared Jeffers, granddaughter-in-law Chandus Hoff, sister Patricia (Charles) Solberg, brother-in-law, Charles Solberg, brother-in-law, William Parkos; and infant brother Owen.

Eloise is survived by her children and their spouses; 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchhildren, Jason (Amy) Jeffers of Chatfield, MN and their children, Dalton and Danielle; Laura (Gera) Lopez of Rochester, MN and their children, Luis, Nico, Zac and Eli; Jennifer Hoff of Woodbury, MN; Benjamin Hoff of Temple, Texas and his children, Brayden and Jameson; Rebecca (Jason) Schwingle of Preston, MN and their children, Payton, Courtney and her children Jaylen and Treyson, and Duane; Brandon Hoff of Harmony, MN and his children Brock, Baylie and Max; Shauna Hoff of Preston; Matthew (Danette) Hoff of Preston and their daughter Quinn; Erik (Kelsey) Hoff of Detroit Lakes, MN and their children Kennedy, Kora & Kolby;  Shannon (Mitch) Buchholtz of Detroit Lakes and their children Parker, Kellin, and Willow; Tyler Hoff of Detroit Lakes; Nicole (Paul) Letendre of LaCrosse, WI and their children Samuel and Charlotte; Nathan Hoff of Las Vegas, NV and his children, Miles and Gavin; Ryan (Tabitha Faber) Hoff of Big Lake and their children Owen, Makayla, and Olivia; sister Norma (Jack) Munson of Edina, MN; sister Ethelyn (Paul) Gensmer of Caledonia, MN; and sister, Marjorie Parkos of Greeley, CO; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Eloise will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston, MN with Pastor Dan Bredberg officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church on Friday. Burial will take place that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston. Family requests that masks be worn.  Memorials are preferred to be given to Christ Lutheran Church.
