Ethelyn Menees

Ethelyn Menees, age 91, formally of Cresco, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Solon Retirement Village, in Solon, Iowa.  A Private Family Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September, 7, 2021, at Wayne Cemetery in Riceville, Iowa.  A public Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  

Ethelyn Nelda Norgarden was born August 5, 1930 to Ernest and Norma (Northness) Norgarden in Ostrander, Minnesota. She grew up in rural Ostrander and received her teaching certificate at Luther College after graduating from Spring Valley High School. On March 25, 1951, Ethelyn was united in marriage to William Menees, to which three children were born, David, Douglas, and Diane.  In 2001, Bill and Ethelyn moved to Cresco after Bill’s retirement.  In Cresco, Ethelyn became a member of the United Methodist Church, which she loved and was closely involved in. In her spare time, Ethelyn enjoyed sewing and reading.  After retirement, Bill and Ethelyn discovered RV traveling and loved going on many trips.  They even went to Alaska, twice.  Ethelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She loved her family very much.    

Ethelyn is survived by her children David (Linda) Menees of LeClaire, IA, Douglas (Carla) Menees of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Diane (Jeffrey) Buffo of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren David J. (Viviana) Menees, James Menees, Andrew (Natalie) Menees, Anthony Menees, Jeremy (Angela) Menees, Jeff Long, Andy Long, Ben Huston, Nick Huston, Jacob Buffo, Corrine Buffo; one great-grandchild Joshua Menees, and sister Joyce Nelson of San Diego, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill in 2013, and sister Ilene Kasten.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cresco United Methodist Church at 310 N Elm St., Cresco, IA 52136, or Solon Retirement Village at 523 E 5th St., Solon, IA 52333.
