Funeral services for Harold Westphal will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday June 6, 2019 at First English Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with Pastor Larry LaDassor officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Valley Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday June 5, 2019 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley and will continue for 1 hr prior to the service at the church.

Harold L. Westphal, age 90, of Spring Valley died Friday May 31, 2019 at the Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, MN. Harold was born December 28, 1928 in Wykoff, MN to Eberhart and Sophie (Witte) Westphal. He attended school through the 8th grade and later attended college to become a barber.  On September 25, 1948 he was united in marriage to Betty Kappers at the home of Vernon Kappers. Together they spent 64 years before Betty passed away in 2012. Harold worked as a barber for a short time in Grand Meadow and Rochester before starting in Spring Valley in 1958. He worked continuously as a barber in Spring Valley for 52 years retiring in 2010.  Harold was an active member of First English Lutheran Church serving as an Elder and Head Usher for many years, he served on the Spring Valley Fire Department from 1967 – 1990 and enjoyed helping them at their Ag Day Celebration over the years. He served on the Spring Valley Cemetery Board for 41 years from 1978 to 2019 and also drove school bus for Spring Valley for many years. He enjoyed Polka Music and dancing, fishing trips, traveling with his daughter Carol and going to the senior center and senior dining. For several years Harold took care of and cared for Betty without a single complaint even as his own health declined he always had a smile on his face and never complained.

He is survived by his children; Carol Daugherty of Byron, MN and Gary (Diane) Westphal of Alexandria, MN, grandchildren; Bradley (Stephanie) Westphal and Corey (Amber) Westphal, 4 great-grandchildren ; Kellen, Tyler Ari and Beau. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, infant son Jerry, Grandson Kyle, son-in-law Jim Daugherty and siblings Elaine, Lawrence, Ray, his twin brother Darold and Wayne. 

In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Spring Valley Fire Department or the Spring Valley Cemetery.
