Hazel Blanchard, age 101, died on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
She was born on July 21, 1919 to Henry and Dora Peterson of Grand Meadow, MN. She grew up in rural Southern Minnesota and attended Grand Meadow High School where she was a member of the undefeated girls’ basketball team. They won several awards and were recognized statewide. She married Bernard Blanchard on March 17, 1956. Hazel was an avid gardener, loved flowers and bird watching. She enjoyed quilting and Norwegian baking and loved her daily devotions and quiet time with God. Hazel was always kind to others.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard Blanchard, and her son Richard Casper.
She is survived by her daughters, Charlene Blanchard of Grand Meadow, MN, and Judith (Edward) Simokat of Summerville, SC. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Edward (Jo) Simokat III of Summerville, SC, Michael Simokat of Summerville, SC, Matthew (Stacy) Simokat of Summerville, SC, Teresa (Jason) Brewer of Florence, SC; six great-grandchildren Blake and Ashlyn Simokat of Summerville, SC, and Allison, Anders, Abbot, and Abigail Brewer of Florence, SC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Grand Meadow Lutheran Church, with the Pastor Megan Reedstrom officiating. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service.
Masks must be worn and social distancing is to be practiced.
