Jeanette F. (Larsen) Schmidt

Jeanette Schmidt, age 81, of Preston, MN passed away at Cascade Creek Memory Care in Rochester, on Tuesday, August 9, 2023.

Jeanette was born June 7, 1942, daughter of Edward and Beulah (Petersen) Larsen. After graduating from Preston High School, she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated with a degree in teaching.

In 1965, she married David Schmidt at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston.

Following college, Jeanette taught for a year in Austin, MN, before she and David moved to his family’s farm near Preston. Jeanette’s life outside the farm included formation of Send Me Minnesota gifts, a co-owner/operator of The Brick House on Main Coffee House in Preston, and a Fillmore County Journal Country Coffee Talk columnist. Jeanette was active in the Fillmore County Historical Society, and she took on many roles at Christ Lutheran Church, including Choir Director/member, Bible Study, and President of Altar Guild.

Survivors include three children, Diana Schmidt of Wabasha, Paul (Karen) Schmidt of Preston, and Sarah Schmidt of Rochester; two grandchildren, Vaughan Schmidt, and Devan Schmidt of Preston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother.

Funeral services for Jeanette will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston with Rev. Beth Joyner officiating. Jeanette will be laid to rest at Carimona Cemetery in Fillmore County. Visitation will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
