Joan A. Wegman

Joan A. Wegman, age 86, of Riceville, Iowa, passed away February 1, 2021,  at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center in Riceville.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 8, 2021, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven with Fr. Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.  Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, Riceville, is assisting the family.  Please join the family for a luncheon and fellowship following the burial at: Dugan’s Restaurant & Lounge 205 Adams St., Floyd, Iowa 50435  

Joan Agnes was born in Carroll County, Iowa, on September 22, 1934, to Frank Rudolph and Martha Catherine (Rust) Pille. She graduated from St. Angela Academy in Carroll, Iowa, in 1952. She met the love of her life, Leroy Wegman, at a dance, and on February 5, 1957, they were united in marriage, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia, Iowa. The newlyweds moved to a farm south of Riceville where they made their home for the next 63-plus years. Besides working alongside Roy on the farm, Joannie had many interests. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting, needlework, gardening, calligraphy, and canning. She was a member of St. Peter’s Altar & Rosary Society, a CCD teacher, and sang in the church choir.  Joan also served as co-leader of the Wapsi Winners   4-H Club.

Joan is survived by her husband, Leroy Wegman of Riceville, IA, two children: Cathleen (Joe) Mason, Chester, Iowa, and Daniel of Huber Heights, Ohio; two grandchildren: Eric Mason, Lime Springs, Iowa, and Christopher (Kelsie) Mason, Dubuque, Iowa, and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Morgan Mason.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Mary Jane, two infant sons, and two brothers, Virgil and Delmar.
