John D. Nielsen

John D. Nielsen, 76, of LeRoy, MN died on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Austin – Mayo Health System in Austin, MN.

John Donald Nielsen was born September 9, 1943 in Hampton, IA to John C. and Bertha (Larsen) Nielsen.

John or “Little John” as he was known to many, was a very kind and generous soul. He always wore a great smile and was willing to help out anyone in a time of need. He was much more than an Uncle to his nieces and nephews. His joy was always helping or being around his family. He made many trips back to Iowa to see and catch up with those that he cared so much about. John was blessed with a few families in many ways. He had his immediate family that he lived with and shared his life with, but he also was blessed with and cherished his LPC family, as well as his Riverside family. They all played a significant role in his life and brought him more joy than they will ever know.

If you ever needed to find him, you could just look outside and find him enjoying the beautiful weather on the deck on the house in the country, sitting outside of Riverside watching every softball, baseball, or football game and practice, or perched upon a lawn mower doing one of his most favorite things. He probably logged more hours on a lawn mower than most mowing services, just for the joy of it. His love of the outdoors was truly evident in everything that he did.

John will be missed by many for his contagious smile and willingness to help in any way.

John is survived by his siblings Dale (Beverly) Nielsen of Clear Lake, IA, and Ruth Janssen of LeRoy, MN, nieces and nephews Diane (Ole) Nielsen of Denmark, Denise (Niles) Wilkins of Ray, MN, Kathy (Wayne) Lange of Spring Valley, MN, Kent (Jolynn) Janssen of Sherburn, MN, Kevin (Tracey) Janssen of LeRoy, MN, and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Dale John Nielsen, niece Janet Nielsen, brother-in-law Kenneth Janssen, and nephew-in-law Carl Nielsen.

Funeral services for John will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2020 at LeRoy Lutheran Church with Pastor Herman Bakker officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in the Coulter Cemetery in Coulter, IA.
