Kenneth J. Speer, 89, of LeRoy, MN, died on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Spring Valley Senior Living in Spring Valley, MN.
Kenneth James Speer was born May 4, 1932 in LeRoy, MN to Elgar and Agnes (Larson) Speer. He attended country school until 8th grade and then began his freshman year at LeRoy High School, where he graduated in 1951. Ken worked as a farm hand before entering the Army in 1953. He spent 1953-1955 in Germany. Ken was employed at the Oliver plant in Charles City, IA from 1955-1969. He met Mayvis Hanna in 1957 and the two were married on July 20, 1958 at LeRoy Lutheran Church. Ken farmed in the LeRoy area all of his life and loved his John Deere equipment. He was a member of the LeRoy Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 161. He enjoyed playing cards, especially 500 and Hearts, and watching TV programs such as Judge Judy and Jeopardy. Ken loved his sweets including donuts, cakes, and pies.
Ken is survived by his son Kevin (Becky) Speer of LeRoy, grandchildren Jaxon Speer, Allen Brown, and Amelia Speer, brothers Virgil (Mary) Speer of LeRoy, Dale Speer of Elgin, MN, and brother-in-law Roy Lidtke of Lime Springs, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mayvis, sister Ruth, brother Victor, and sister-in-law Kathy.
Funeral services for Ken will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at LeRoy Lutheran Church with Pastor Herman Bakker officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, October 8 at LeRoy Lutheran Church and will continue for 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday.
