Larry Conway Obituary

Larry A. Conway passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, IA.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 20, 2019, at Notre Dame Catholic Church.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Larry was born June 3, 1955, in New Hampton, IA, to James E. and Ellen (Thomsen) Conway of Elma.  He grew up in Elma, graduating from Crestwood High School in Cresco.  After High School, Larry graduated from the University of Iowa and became a Certified Public Accountant.  After living a few years in Iowa and Minnesota, Larry moved to California in 1981.

Larry is survived by his husband, Arnold Delgado, of Cresco who was his companion since 1986, sister Linda Angstman (John) of Dumont, IA, sister Myrna Colsch of New Albin, IA, brother Donald (Camilla) of Cresco, Kay Conway of Bloomington, MN, and Arnold’s sister and brothers in Chino and Jurupa Valley, CA.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patricia Fisher and brothers-in-law James Fisher and Jerry Colsch.

After many years practicing as a Certified Public Accountant in the Midwest and California, Larry pursued an education in law.  He graduated magna cum laude from California Western School of Law and ran a law practice in San Diego for many years before his death.  He was named a Certified Specialist in Estate, Trust, and Probate Law, a high distinction since less than 1% of California attorneys are certified specialist in probate and estate planning.  Larry was frequently turned to for comment and advice on the changes brought about when same sex couples were allowed to marry.  Prior to his retirement he wrote technical instruction and taught tax professionals throughout the U.S.

He enjoyed his dogs and travel, especially from the back of his touring motorcycle, and Arnold and Larry had planned to see the U.S. by camping trailer until illness caused Larry to give up his work and dreams and move to Iowa where he could be close to his siblings.

Larry will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the many clients he assisted over the years.
