Lela C. (Maloney) Born

Lela C. Born, 86, of Spring Valley, MN, died on August 23, 2023 at her home.

Lela Charlotte Maloney was born November 24, 1936 in Fillmore Township to Owen and Lorraine (Hazelbush) Maloney. She was united in marriage to Vernon “Spud” Born at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA on April 22, 1957. She and Spud were married for 43 years. Lela was a member of the Farmers Union and Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Every Sunday after dinner, Lela would play Canasta with her dad and uncles. She was a community family advocate and an avid reader. Above all else, Lela was very family oriented and always put her family first.

Lela is survived by her children Ray (Marty) Born of Petersburg, AK, Susan Born-Bryant of Spring Valley, Char (Rick) Christopherson of Stewartville, MN, Steven (Gail) Born of Tulsa, OK, Sandy (Chris) Ball of Wapello, IA and Joyce Leduc of Spring Valley, 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, brothers Thomas Maloney of Houston, TX, Bill Maloney of Minneapolis, MN and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Spud and great-granddaughter Rose Joseph.

Funeral services for Lela will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with Pastor Jolene Knudson-Hanse officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
