Lura Jean (Kozak) Hockens

Lura Hockens, age 74, of Mcintire, IA passed away peacefully at her home on November 11th, 2021. She was born October 5th, 1947 to John & Betty Kozak in Osage, IA. She attended school in New Haven, IA.

Lura was united in marriage to Daniel “Boone” Hockens on November 27, 1966 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, IA, and together they had four children: Deb, Dan, Scott, and Jeanie.

Lura was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. Lura worked at Fox River Mills in Osage, IA and was also a local beautician. She worked at the Pit Stop in Mcintire and was well-known to all as an excellent cook. She enjoyed raising animals (especially chickens), gardening, puzzles, and cheering for the Vikings. Lura always had a few scratch-off lottery tickets on her table and enjoyed going to the casino at any chance she got. She had a knack for canning & preserving and excelled at winemaking. There wasn’t much she couldn’t do - She was really a jack of all trades! She was so loved and will be very missed.

She is survived by her children; Deb (Josh) Ferrie of Cresco, IA, Dan (Kristy) Hockens of LeRoy, MN, and Scott (Wendy Wetherall) of Little Cedar, IA, 7 Grandchildren; Megan (Brennen) Mensink, John Ellis, Amber (Paul) Woltmann, Amanda (Ben Augustine) Hockens, Jackson (Peyton Pooler) Hockens, Ashley Ferrie, and Allison Ferrie. She is also survived by 8 siblings; Two sisters: Ann (Bob) Aulwes-Allison, Ellen (Wes) Novak, Six Brothers: Richard (Lynne) Kozak, Ron (Marcia) Kozak, Roger Kozak, Robert (Cheryl) Kozak, Russell (Marianne) Kozak, and Rex (Bonnie) Kozak.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dan, an infant daughter Jeanie, her parents John & Betty Kozak, her brother Randy, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Al & Florence Holmen.

Visitation for Lura Hockens will be held from 4-7 P.M. Sunday, November 14, 2021, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Riceville, IA. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m.  Monday, November 15, at Wayne Cemetery, McIntire, IA.  Following the burial there will be a Celebration of Life, Monday from 12 noon until ? at the Riceville Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Wayne Cemetery or Hospice of Mitchell County.
